A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013 – though I only started last week!
Poppy: Added new colour to our traditional of red balloons in May, choosing a purple balloon.
Fox: Loves that ball. He has taken it to school most days this month and is rather adept and kicking it.
Gil: Blew his first raspberry this week. Oooohh the dreamy baby sounds.
The 31st of May is a special day for our family. I keep up ritual I started many, many years ago now. Releasing a red balloon for my brother Ben on the anniversary of his death. As a gift for his year 10 formal I bought Ben a red rose corsage, so when he died less than a year later red became the colour of the balloons I would buy and release in remembrance of him. Today Poppy asked for a purple balloon, Ben would totally approve, Fox asked for blue, and Gil and I shared the red balloon. We spoke to Ben as we released the balloons. Poppy said she wished he was still alive and had a house and a girl baby. Fox said some lovely kind words directly to Ben before letting the ribbon slip from his hand and watching with glee as the blue balloon bounded up to the clouds.
